Greetings,

Welcome to the official website of Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. As President, I am honored, humbled and happy to have the opportunity to lead my chapter, which now boasts a historic membership of 486.

Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter was chartered March 19, 1949, on the beautiful campus of Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University (AAMU).  This year, we celebrate our diamond jubilee anniversary where we spotlight 75 years of outstanding service in the Huntsville/ Madison County area, the South Eastern Region, and the World!

Of our ten charter members, one, Mrs. Harriet J. Terry, was an Alpha Kappa Alpha founder. Our chapter dedicated a historical marker in her honor where it was mounted on the front lawn of Terry Hall, a women’s dormitory, where Founder Terry taught English for 37 years at AAMU. Mrs. Evangeline Spillman, another beloved charter member, was our first “Diamond Member”. She celebrated her 75th anniversary of Alpha Kappa Alpha service and sisterhood in 2017 and became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on October 9, 2018. Mrs. Fannie Pulley Thompson, a charter member of Epsilon Gamma Omega, was our second “Diamond Member” in 2021 and became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on February 5, 2024. During this year, we are spotlighting and honoring another “Diamond Member”, Mrs. Maureen Horton Davis Cathey, a member of Epsilon Gamma Omega and a charter member of the Gamma Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.

Epsilon Gamma Omega was home to Mrs. Mary M. Chambers, former First Vice President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and first Director of the Cleveland Job Corps Center for Women. It is also home to Mrs. Adrienne P-K Washington, 24th South Eastern Regional Director, who still faithfully serves Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and this community. Countless other members of our chapter have provided extensive leadership and service at all levels of our beloved sisterhood.

An international, regional, and local award-winning chapter, Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter, has a rich legacy of service. Through our local signature program, the Debutante Presentation and Ball, we award a minimum of three academic scholarships annually to high school senior students. Recently, we added "book stipends" that were awarded to our debutantes.  For 65 years, thousands of young women have benefited from months of social, cultural, spiritual and career training preceding their debut, the culmination of their debutante experience. Epsilon Gamma Omega sponsors and supports many other community programs as well.

With the theme Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood, the 2022-2026 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® International Administration seeks to build upon our rich legacy of service by galvanizing our sisterhood of more than 120,000 active members to lead on the front lines of change, education, and advocacy. Under the leadership of Ms. Danette Anthony Reed, International President, Strengthen Our Sisterhood serves as the “Foundation Initiative” as we strengthen our bonds to support our service mission. The remaining five initiatives serve as the “Program Initiatives” which include:

  • Empower our Families
  • Build Our Economic Wealth
  • Enhance Our Environment
  • Advocate for Social Justice
  • Uplift our Community

These initiatives are designed to improve the lives of those we serve. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will work collaboratively to maximize our outreach on progressive endeavors and consistently produce leaders who will advance our credo of service.

We hope you will find this website to be a valuable tool for obtaining relevant information about the Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter, our rich history, our vast community programs, and our significant events. It is our objective to continuously showcase on our website many endeavors of service and sisterhood where you can watch, witness, and see EGO Soar!

Sincerely,

Tonya S. Wood
